If you look at a page of search results on Google for local search such as for a dentist, you will see a specific hierarchy:

At the top are Google’s pay-per-click ads, followed by the local map and the first three Google Maps results. Underneath are the organic, or natural, results. The organic results for a dentist search using the keyword “dentist _______[town]” consist of a mixture of local dentists’ websites and directory results, such as Yelp and Whitepages.
