Search Engine Marketing

A good presence on search engines, especially Google, is vital

In 2012 Google ran a study with the agency Shopper Sciences looking at the purchase journey for 3,000 shoppers and found 3,000 different paths, but found that no matter where they entered their journey, they utilized online search at least once, and usually many times.

And for the first time ever, online search exceeded family and friends as the most-used source of information.

Google continues to lead the way in search engines with over 86% usage at the end of 2012 and so is the main target for most search engine marketing.

What is Search Engine Marketing?

Simply, it covers three main areas:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

Getting visitors to your website by getting your website to show up as high as possible on the results list of Google and other search engines.

Organic search engine marketing

This is done by placing certain “tags” and “keywords” (search terms) on your website so that the search engine crawlers know how to index your site, and by getting your site linked to other sites that are relevant to it (showing the search engine that your site has importance on a specific subject).

Known as search engine optimization, or SEO for short, this is a process that can require a lot of work to get a website high on the first page of results in a competitive geographic location. Complicating the matter is the fact that Google is continuously changing the rules of what is important, but without telling anyone!

At Gilleard Dental Marketing we provide dynamic search engine optimization that will raise your rankings without compromising the effectiveness of the marketing of your website.

We partner with expert search engine optimizers to ensure your search engine optimization is the most efficient possible.

Paid Search Advertising

Google PPC search engine marketingKnown as pay-per-click advertising (PPC) and sometimes as cost-per-click advertising (CPC), these are ads that appear on the top and right side of your search engine results.

The advertiser pays every time someone clicks on their ad and the cost per click depends on supply and demand: a lot of competitors and relatively few people searching equals expensive clicks. Few competitors and a lot of people searching equals relatively inexpensive clicks.

The art of paid search advertising includes optimizing your paid advertising to get the most out of your budget and attracting the correct public to the services you want to market in as much abundance as possible.

Google+ Local (formerly Google Places)

Google Places search engine marketingFor local search it is essential for a doctor to who have an optimized “Google+ Local” page. This is the page that showcases a local business on Google Maps.

You’ll see these listings usually at the top of the page, up to seven on the first page of Google results, and it takes you to Google Maps if you click on a listing’s review link. The main link takes you straight to the website.

Optimizing the Google+ Local listing will quite often place your website on the first page of Google results, and for local search these listings are usually higher than the “natural” search engine results.

Other Internet Marketing

Like any marketing, the goal of Internet marketing is to make your product or service as known as possible. This can include a variety of other ways to either drive people to your website or have them call directly, including:

  • Directories, such as Yelp or Yellowpages
  • PR releases
  • Advertising on relevant websites
  • Video marketing with YouTube, often considered part of SEO
